Fixing specific days such as the third or fortieth after death for feasts and ceremonies is not established from the Sunnah and is regarded as a disliked innovation, particularly when food is served from the bereaved family’s expense. Conveying reward to the deceased through charity and recitation on any day is the correct practice.
