Is seeking help (istighatha) from other than Allah permissible?
Answer
Asking a living person for ordinary help they are able to provide is permissible. However, calling upon the deceased or asking any creation for matters that only Allah controls (such as sustenance, cure, children, removal of harm) is impermissible and can amount to shirk. All worship and ultimate reliance must be directed to Allah alone.
